Planting trees at the rugby club

Sustainable Wareham’s first major nature related project came to fruition this month as we teamed up with Swanage and Wareham RFC to plant 30 new trees – all contributing to tackling climate change.

Sustainable Wareham’s first major nature related project came to fruition this month as we teamed up with Swanage and Wareham RFC to plant 30 new trees all contributing to tackling climate change.

While the Swans provided an area of the club’s ground in Wareham to plant the trees, our team contributed the saplings of silver birch, rowan and wild cherry donated to us by the Woodland Trust. We also drew up a planting plan and advised on the recycled plastic tubes that protect the saplings.

This was a real community effort with families and children connected to club players and officials each choosing one tree to plant out and maintain.  We hope it will be the first of many such collaborations with local organisations, and are already drawing up plans for introducing wild flowers at the club.
